In one of our latest post we had a brief about the retire of Google Reader and now it's time to find an alternative for Google Reader that suits us the best. Like finding alternatives for Adsense, this too is a bit confusing, just because the products from Google always fulfills our requirements. But here in this case, we must find an alternative since Reader wont be available for anyone from 1st July 2013. And here's a list of top 5 alternatives that can be used instead of Google Reader.

Feedly

Founded in 2008, Feedly is one of the best alternatives for Google Reader, a lot of  writers, designers and researcher's already use Feedly to consume their web world. With Feedly you can organize your favorites like the blogs, news sites, podcasts, YouTube channels, etc moreover you can sync it with the Google Reader allowing you to continue your e reading smoothly even after the the Google Reader is shutdown. The multiple layout option, auto mark as read, tagging, advanced sharing, keyboard shortcuts are extra features of Feeddly which makes you select it as the best one. The social sharing offered by Feedly is also very useful, you can save articles across devices, can tweet them, share them in Facebook, Google +, Pinterest, LinkedIn . Feedly was named as one of the top 10 Android Apps of 2011 by the Time Magazine.

The Old Reader

As the name implies, The Old Reader is a reader similar to the old Google Reader. With The Old reader you can read every bit of data shared by your friends with the notes and the comments. You can import your feeds directly from your Google Reader account or can use the OPML import method, if you are too concern about the security. According to the developer team of The Old Reader they build it because they really missed the Old Google Reader and the Old Reader started to circulate very well among their friends and so they are now sharing it to the public. According to them, NewsBlur is a personal news reader but i would NewsBlur is a professional news reader which brings people together to talk about the world. NewsBlur can be used as a free tool as well as a premium one, the premium version of it costs about $24 per year. By unlocking the free version you can use unlimited sites but in the free version, only 64 sites are allowed. In the free version the sharing is limited to public only but in premium you can do public, private and protected shares.

Netvibes

Netvibes is mainly known as a social dashboard and aggregation provider but it's also a well known RSS news reader. Netvibes offers three kinds of plans, one if free and is aimed at personal uses. The other two plans are premium for one and premium for teams. As per now like the other alternatives Netvibes is experiencing a vast amount of traffic as part of the migration from Google Reader. One of the additonal benefit that can be seen in Netvibes is the automatic refreshing in real time as a flowing river of news.

Pulse, a flying and beautiful way to read your blog, magazines, social medias and news sites. Pulse is maintained and developed by a team which believes that they make the news your own. But Pulse is only a partially syncing RSS reader and it mainly focuses on suggesting news to you, which they think will make you happy or is what you needs. they too are prepared to welcome the navigators from Reader and you can do it simply by the import feature that they have enabled.

The Google Reader followers were disappointed by the following message, which was also announced officially by the Google team. That is Google Reader will not be available from 1st July 2013 onward.
Google officially announced the retire of Google Reader through their blog post on 13th March 2013, the
powering down is as part of Google's spring cleaning. Google Reader was launched in 2005 with the intention to make it easy for its people to find and keep tabs on their favorite sites. But due to many reasons the usage of the facility has declined but had always a loyal following.  But like the words of Alan Green, a Software Engineer in Google, the powering down have made the devoted followers of Google Reader, very much sad. and the main reasons Alan say for the retire are, the usage decline Reader has experienced  and the vision of the company to pour all its energy into fewer products.

 And so to have a better and simple transition the team is providing a three month time so as to find a better and best alternative for Google Reader. They are also providing facility to download your Reader data if you would like to retain it.  It can be downloaded from the Google Takeout. The data that can be downloaded include your subscription details,  list of people that follows you or people whom you follow, items you have starred, liked, shared, items shared by people you follow, notes created by you and the items with comments.

The subscription data will be downloaded in a XML file and all other can only be downloaded as JSON files.Moreover these data can be easily transferred to other product so that you can continue to stick with your online reading.

We had a simple comparison about the Google Authorship and Author Rank in the last post. In the beginning  Authorship was commonly available for WordPress blogs only but now  it's available and possible for all sites in spite from where it is hosted or managed. Now lets implement the Authorship process in our blogger profile.

Switch to the new interface of Blogger dashboard, if you have not done it yet also make sure you have a Google + profile associated with the same account of your's blogger blog.
 If you are accessing to the new blogger dashboard for the first time you will see the notification by default which will help you to connect your Google + profile with your blog. Otherwise follow these steps,

Choose the blog for which you would like to get the authorship then at the right corner of your page you can see the setting button, click it and choose " Connect to Google+", if it's not there, you are already linked with your profile.

Click on the check box which asks for your acknowledgment and click SWITCH NOW.
Now add your blog to the profile. Now you will get a notification saying you were success in what you did. Otherwise you missed something. Upon the completion of these steps your blog's home page will be authorized or will get the authorship.

And if you want your profile to be linked with all your blog posts then you will have put an extra time more. Navigate to your blog's template section and click on Edit HTML and remember to check the button saying Expand Widget Templates. Now press Ctrl+F ( find option ) to search for the following code segment.



Now add the following code segment, just after this line.  <div class="post-footer">

Now it's common that we see a Google + profile photo with our Google Search Result. Have you ever wondered what it is ? For those who don't know about it, here's a brief from what i have learned.

Author Rank can be referred to as the effect of authorship process. An author rank resembles to the Google page rank but only in ranking process, because like the Page Rank algorithm we have no clear idea about the Author rank. but it has a lot of difference when compared to the page rank, literally, page rank is something that exists but according to Mark Traphagen Author rank probably doesn't exist yet and even if it does, Google neither gives a score nor a method to determine it.
 So Google author rank is something that gives the content owner a grade for the contents which you have got the authorship. And these grades are now being used to determine the position of your contents in the search result. Moreover, according to experts, the factor that affects your Author Rank is your content's engagement, through out the web.



Nothing more can be said about the Google Author Rank because its not yet a significant ranking and like Mark said it doesn't really exist.
